Medical disclaimer

Last updated 29 October 2026

The information on this website and in the book is educational. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for an examination by a qualified eye-care professional.

Who wrote it

The author is a parent who researched the subject. He is not an ophthalmologist, optometrist, orthoptist, paediatrician or any other licensed health professional, and he has not examined your child. Articles have not yet been independently reviewed by a clinician; each article's byline states this.

What it is for

The site explains what published research says about children's eyesight — in general, for the population of children studied — so that parents can ask better questions, notice problems earlier and understand the options they are offered. It cannot tell you what is happening in your own child's eyes.

What to do instead

  • If something worries you about your child's eyes, book an appointment with an optometrist or eye doctor first and read afterwards.
  • If a child has a turned eye, a white reflex in the pupil, sudden pain, light sensitivity, an injury, or a sudden change in vision, seek care urgently; do not wait for information from a website.
  • Decisions about treatment — including any drops, lenses or therapy — belong to you and a qualified clinician who has examined your child. Nothing here recommends a dose, a product or a brand.
  • If anything here contradicts what your child's clinician has told you, follow the clinician: they have seen the eyes and the author has not.

Limits of the evidence

Scientific evidence changes and has limits. Trials study groups, not your child; results in one country or age group may not carry over; and some questions in this field remain open. The evidence tags on each claim are the author's reading of the literature as of the review date on the article, not a guarantee.

No liability

The author and site accept no liability for decisions made on the basis of this content. Use of the site does not create any professional relationship.
